WELCOME

Hello, my name is Rachel Schmidt and my role as a counsellor, coach, and instructor is to encourage you to explore all parts of self, and connect with your inner resources - your voice of wisdom, clarity and compassion so you can better understand where feelings of being stuck, out of alignment, and overwhelm come from. Then work together to design a set of mindful practices, and reflective and contemplative activities to help you understand self and your life from new perspectives. Moving from self discovery to creative expression, to integration. We need all parts of ourselves moving in the same direction for lasting change.

My orientation to this work is rooted in social work, psychosynthesis, and nature based mindfulness. Psychosynthesis believes we are all inherently whole and good, and each individual has the capacity to tune in, deeply, to a sense of life purpose. In the same sense, families, groups, businesses and cultures have the potential for responding to what is truly important, building slowly but surely towards a healthier world. Psychosynthesis has been called “Psychology with a Soul”. It is an integrative psychology combining Eastern wisdom with Western thought. Unlike some psychologies, it incorporates the Spiritual or Transpersonal Self into its view of the individual.

My work centres around connecting people with their deepest nature as revealed through the language of their bodies, sub-personalities, dreams, art, and other manifestations of their psyche. From this place, which we reference as the 'Call of Self' in Psychosynthesis, individuals have the potential to access a new relationship with their body, life, and work that is grounded in deep purpose and individual expression. The crafting of a meaningful life is really at the heart of our work together.

WHAT IS COACHING?

At its essence, coaching is like having someone in your corner who you trust, and who sees you as a whole person with a past, present and emerging self. Someone who cheers you on, holds space for you when things feel hard, reminds you of your truth, and charts a path forward to help you achieve your goals and dreams. Coaching really means having a trusted ally who believes in you no matter what, who is always kind and compassionate, but highly skilled to keep you focused on and accountable to the big picture.  Coaching is deeply rooted in the present. It starts with “what is” and charts a program for moving forward that is informed by, but not focused on, the past. Coaching is designed to work with the wholeness of a client’s experience and personality, it is not a therapeutic process for healing deeper or historic psychological traumas or challenges, such as: clinical depression, addiction, violence, etc. If you are in deep crisis or in need of trauma therapy please seek counselling support.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

In addition to a Bachelor of Social Work degree and 30 years of experience, I have a background in coaching, teaching, group facilitation, and managing complex health care improvement projects. I am also trained and certified in Psychosynthesis through the Synthesis Centre in San Francisco, and bound by the Board Certified Coaching Code of Ethics. Please note I am currently in the process of renewing my registration with the BC College of Social Workers which will allow clients to use extended health benefits.

My consulting and coaching studio is located in the forest, surrounded by 150-year-old trees. My work is inspired by Roberto Assagioli, the Italian Psychiatrist who founded Psychosynthesis, Jungian Analyst Marion Woodman, and great artists and writers like Georgia O'Keeffe, Richard Wagamese, and Mary Oliver.
