HELLO & WELCOME TO THE ART OF MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY

Mindful Photography is sometimes called contemplative photography, or slow photography. It is the practice of returning again and again to the present moment, and allowing the eye, mind, and heart to guide the camera. Photography helps us be completely present and mindful with something, and distinguish between the seen and the imagined. This contemplative practice can help you learn to see your life and your world with fresh eyes ~ to see what is happening through a different lens.

This 4 week online course is live and will help you develop your capacity for mindful presence and deepen your connection to the beauty of every day life and the natural world around you.  

The course is designed to help you restore a sense of well-being and vitality in your body, connect you with your creative self, and find a greater sense of flow and meaning in your life.

COURSE OUTLINE

WEEK 1 - Capturing Imagination & Light 

Work with soft and natural light to calm your mind, find stillness, and follow your imagination.

WEEK 2 - Colour & Texture Immersion

Immerse yourself in colours and textures to awaken your senses.

WEEK 3 - Finding Flow & Mystery in Nature

Reconnect to the natural world to find beauty and goodness all around you.

WEEK 4 - Reflecting Self & the World Around You

Discover a new way of relating to your body and life, and expressing your unique voice.

SEATS AVAILIABLE: 8 and 3 left

-->Weekly assignments will require time spent in nature, or with natural elements that you can source and bring indoors. Each live class will provide an opportunity to learn mindful photography techniques, share your photographs, and learn about the creative process of others.

-->All you need is your eyes, a smartphone or camera, and an open mind. No photography experience needed.

TIME ZONES:

Canada/US - West Coast:  Thursdays 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm Pacific Time

Canada/US - East Coast:    Thursdays 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm Eastern Time

Australia/New Zealand:  This would be a Friday 12:30 pm class for women living in Australia, and a Friday 2:30 pm class for women living in New Zealand.

COST:

$260 CAD + GST ~ total class hours are 8, in addition to weekly assignments and readings, and a private FB page to share work and techniques. By the end of the course you will have your own portfolio of artistic photos.

I work hard to keep value high and costs manageable to ensure more women can participate. You can pay with credit card, paypal or by etransfer to theforeststudio@shaw.ca.

REFUNDS:

Please note if you withdraw a week before the first class a full refund is available. This gives me time to fill your seat. Refunds are not available once the course begins as I will not be able to fill your seat. Thank you for understanding.

INSTRUCTOR: Rachel Schmidt BSW, PLC

Rachel Schmidt is an award winning photographer and filmmaker. Her film Defensora, a story about Mayan Q'eqchi women in Eastern Guatemala leading a resistance against Canadian mining, screened all over the world through solidarity networks, several film festivals including the Amnesty International Film Festival, and is currently part of the curriculum in numerous law schools in Canada and the US.

Rachel also specializes in nature-based mindfulness and a depth psychology coaching approach called Psychosynthesis. She has a special interest in contemplative arts, and uses photography, visual art, and filmmaking in her work.

Her educational background includes training and certification in Psychosynthesis from the Synthesis Institute in San Francisco, a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of Victoria, and an Independent Filmmaking Diploma from Langara College. Rachel brings 25 years of counselling, group facilitation, and teaching experience.
